About 40% of us create New Year’s Resolutions and about 70% do not complete or follow through with these New Years Goals. There are many reasons why this happens! Maybe you don’t have a plan in place, you don’t have a support/ compatibility system around you to keep you on track and motivated, you messed up already so why
Number 1. Set small goals to build up to your big goal!
By setting smaller goals, you get to look forward to results sooner; rather than awaiting a long-term goal. Remember, goals should always be attainable! Don’t make them too easy or too hard, but just challenging enough to create a WANT for change. Keep constant focus on your goals and resolutions!
Number 2. Celebrate each small goal you reach!
Celebrating the little goals creates a break in the monotony for getting to your big goal. These are to be mini goals like treating yourself to a spa day, playing a round of golf, buying a new workout outfit or normal outfit. Be creative in your little celebrations. When we celebrate the process of what we are trying to achieve, we become more mindful on the beauty of our hard work and change!
Number 3. Get a support system and a compatibility partner that wants to see you succeed!
When you surround yourself with people who are rooting for your success, they’ll be available to lift you up during the ruts of life! Choose your support system wisely. Be sure they’ll only tell the kind truth, and are always uplifting, never degrading. When we share our goals with others, we’re able to uplift one another and count on each other to succeed!
Number 4. Set yourself up for success!
Part One: One of the most difficult things we have to do in life is say “no” to thinks we typically would say “yes” to. Whatever your goal is–getting more sleep, cutting out soda or alcohol, creating more family time, saving more money–it’s crucial to say “no” to your pitfalls and temptations. First, figure our what your temptations are and begin learning to say “no.” Second, have a plan of attack. When finding yourself in tempting situations, be mindful of your actions! Being mindful creates a 40% positive change in your attitude to be successful.
Part Two: To be successful, it’s important to make time for yourself. For example, if you want to workout more, plan your day around your workout. If you want more down time, set aside 30 minutes each day to relax. If you want to eat healthier, create meal plans and meal prep. Being intentional with your goals will ultimately lead you to success. You’ll thank yourself later when you make the time and make your goals a priority.
Number 5. Give yourself a break!
It’s OKAY to mess up, we all do! If you mess up, don’t give up; just start again the next day. Don’t be too hard on yourself! You’ll find that with goals, come ups and downs. The most important thing is to pick yourself up, start again, and learn from the situation that caused you to slip up. When you slip up, start again! When you fall down, start again! Be mindful and use each day as a fresh start to obtaining your goals!
Number 5. Be Mindful!
The reoccurring pattern is to be mindful and intentional with everything you do! When we are mindful and intentional every day, our long-term goals become less daunting. Become more present and start noticing the details (both small and big) of this amazing life. Those who reported being more mindful in the moment stated they were significantly happier, less stressed, had a healthier social life, and their overall experience was more satisfying.
